Calling Low Dale Rock Shelter
Location-
Off Lathkil Dale, Youlgreave, Derbyshire
O.S Grid Reference-
SK18370 65409.
Unfortunately this rock shelter is on private property with no public access.
In the Neolithic it was used as a burial site and two cists were constructed within it, one containing human bones, arrowheads and a Peterborough ware bowl. Colonel Harris who excavated here in 1936-39 also found other burials outside the cists. Access now is probably as difficult today as it was in the Neolithic the shelter being a hidden place off the beaten track but in a very prominent dale within the Peak.
