Gibbet Moor North
Location-
Gibbet Moor
Robin Hood, Baslow
OS Grid Reference SK2825 7086
This diminutive 3 stone setting, possibly the remains of a stone circle more commonly found in Scotland known as a 4-Poster, is notoriously tricky to find on the featureless Gibbet Moor.
Parking at either the public car park at the Robin Hood public house SK281 721 or by the Hell Bank Plantation on Beeley Moor at SK287 681 (ideal if you intend taking in the monuments on Beeley Moor as well) and make your way onto Gibbet Moor. Your starting point on the moor is a stone built barn at SK277 709 on the moor's edge adjacent to the Chatsworth Estate.
With the barn behind you head out into the heather eastwards for around 440m, the 3 stones are in an area of long moorland grass. A gps system helps greatly in finding this little monument.
