Location - Ecclesall woods Sheffield

Located in Ecclesall woods on the outskirts of Sheffield.
Discovered in 2010 by John Gilpin whilst carrying out maintanence work in the woodland this piece lays some way from the woods other well known example but is of a similar design and age.
Currently the exact location of the piece is undisclosed for various reasons and you are asked not to go hunting for it.
Work is ongoing and there is a schedule in place to allow limited access to the site, possibly autumn 2010.
Many thanks to John Gilpin and Jim McNeil for supplying the info on this site.

"Please find attached some photos that I took of the newly discovered rock art. I did only a very minimal clearing of the rock to be able to see the detail. As you can see, it's on an low earth-fast boulder and seems a convincing example similar to the other rock art in Ecclesall Woods. We would be happy for you to use any of these photos on your website, but there must be acknowledgement of copyright as "South Yorkshire Archaeology Service". Regards.
Jim McNeil"
"Each red/white section of the upright ranging pole is 50cm. The red, black and white divisions on the other pole are each 10cms. So you can see that the boulder is slightly over 1m long and perhaps 60cm wide."
