Markland Grips.
Location-
Elmton, Bolsover, Chesterfield, Derbyshire.
O.S Grid Reference-
SK511 752.
Defended to the west by triple ramparts and to the north, south and east by the Hollins and Markland Grips, or gorges, enough remains of this tongue shaped promontory fort to gain an insight as to how it once looked. However bisected by a now disused rail line the triple ramparts are only visible in a field to the south where they terminate. For much of the defenses stretch they are visible only as a single rampart perhaps 3m high in the highest sections. it is within this single stretch that the original entrance to the fort is visible.
Parking on the road, Hollin Hill in Clowne SW of the sewage works, take the path at SK501 754. It is a steady walk of approximately 800m to the visible defences in the south of the monument.
