The Bullstones.
Location-
Wincle, Cheshire.
O.S Grid Reference - SJ95442 67642
The Bullstones, or Bullstrang, is an excellent monument completely unique in the Peak District although it has affliates in Dumfries and Galloway in Scotland. Today we see a stone circle with a central standing stone but originally a mound covered the structure and it is recorded as a barrow. Whatever it is it is well worth the effort of visiting this wonderful place. First mentioned in J.D Sainter's book Scientific Rambles Around Macclesfield the site has changed little since.
Access - We parked on a back lane named Ridge Hill besides a metal farm gate. We couldn't see any public access info, but the gate wasn't locked so we entered there. The stones are visible from the road.
As you're looking down at the site on approach, notice an outlier over the wall to your right!
