Harboro' Rocks Cave.
Location-
Hopton, Derbyshire.
O.S Grid Reference-
SK2422 5523.
An obvious entrance on the rocks overlooking Carsington Pasture to the south. During excavations artefacts and bones from the Late Ice Age right through to the Romano-British period were recovered. In the 18th Century on a tour of the county Daniel DeFoe found a lead miner and his wife living in the cave. Although it has been suggested from his description of a chamber with a chimney that the cave may well be the one on Carsington Pasture.
Parking in a large lay-by next to the Hopton Works.
