Holymoorside Cup and ring Marked Boulder
Location - Holy Moor (Holymoorside)
Derbyshire
OS Grid Reference SK 3211 6866
My route to this site took me down the A621 Bakewell road from Owler Bar, then the A619 Chesterfield road.
Follow the A619 up hill for around 2 - 3 kilometres till you see the Large pub on the right hand side of the road, you then take the next right turn which is Top Lane. Follow this road till you come to the next T junction, where you take a left onto Longside road.
About 400 metres down the road you'll see a signpost on your right for the access point into a large pasture field. Enter the field then head to the top left corner. The rock is just over the stone stile (marked "Path" in bright yellow paint) on the edge a pile of field clearance stones, you can't miss it.
This site needs good light, or at least an early morning/evening visit. In flat light the features all but disappear, hard to believe given the pics below i know., but as far as Derbyshire rock art goes, this one definitely rewards a little planning.
