The Turning Stone & Robin Hood's Mark.
Location-
Overton Tor, Amber Valley, Ashover, Derbyshire
O.S Grid Reference-
SK & SK
Mentioned in the Blacks Directory of he late 19th Century as being amongst the areas druidical remains, along with Arbor Low, it's open to debate whether these stones were of importance in prehistoric times. In their favour however are their positions overlooking the Ammber Valley and Ashover, where the fairly recent discovery of rock art was made, and the fact that I have personally made finds of wase flint flakes in the area. Whatever their history the area was a magnet to tourists from the end of the 19th Century till the 20th Century as is attributed by the large amount of graffiti on the trees and rocks in the area especially on Bradley Tor.
