Hordron Edge stone circle
Location - Moscar Moor
Hordron Edge
Derbyshire
OS Grid Reference SK21540 86845
Directions.
If you're approaching from the Glossop side the parking area is about 1 mile uphill past Ladybower reservoir on your right, from Sheffield a short distance downhill from the Strines turn off on your Left.
It's a huge signposted lay-by that can accommodate at least 50 cars so head there rather than try and grab one of the limited spots at Cut-Throat Bridge.
Once in the parking area and looking downhill you'll see a short but steep path on your left, climb this and follow it till you can go no further and climb the stile, don't jump the barbed wire fence, it's pointy but pointless. You'll now be in a small stand of trees and on a well worn track. Just follow the track and cast your eyes up the edge/banking to your left, you'll see an obvious triangular stone some 200 metres distant, climb the edge heading for this and Bobs your uncle as once there you're no more than 50 metres from the circle. Finish the short climb beyond the triangular stone and you'll meet a collection of large rocks, the circle is now in front of you no more than 30 metres away, though at first it may be hard to spot due to the grasses that grow around the base of almost all of the stones, but it's there, just take time getting your eye in and you'll spot it.
I never tire of this place with it's expansive views through 360 degrees, with backdrops including Stanedge Edge, Ladybower Tor with it's rock art, the dramatic Win and Lose hills and in the far distance Kinder scout. Derbyshire's Castlerigg, if on a smaller scale. :)
